ANDRES UTTING, AIA

Managing Partner

Andres is a licensed architect passionate about the development of urban buildings that are both beautiful and functional. He has over 17 years of experience working with clients and large teams on complex projects. He is a licensed architect in both Texas and Florida and his past work include large-scale and mixed-used projects such as Washington DC’s Midtown Center. Andres is recipient of Preservation Houston’s Good Brick Awards and has also taught design studios at the University of Houston Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design.

Andres received his Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon where he specialized in urban design; researching and analyzing what creates healthy and vibrant neighborhoods. Prior to starting Urbano Architects, Andres worked as Senior Associate at SHoP Architects in New York City and as Managing Partner for ToolBox, an architecture firm in Managua, Nicaragua.

LAURA CARRERA, AIA

Partner

Laura is passionate about transforming underutilized historic buildings for modern use while maintaining the essence of their original character. She is a licensed architect who dedicates her career to purposeful architecture and preservation planning projects. Some of her past work include the Imperial Sugar Char House Preservation Plan, New York Public Library Midtown Campus Renovation, Enoch Pratt Free Library Renovation, Cartier New York Renovation and various K-12 additions and renovations in Texas. 

Laura is known as a dedicated community advocate for preservation and architectural education. She currently serves on ACE Mentor Program Houston Board of Directors and AIA Houston Board of Directors. She previously served as Chair for AIA Houston Historic Resources Committee. She is recipient of Preservation Houston’s Good Brick Awards, 2018 AIA Houston Presidential Citation, 2017 UTSA Distinguished Alumni Rising Star Award and 2011 UTSA Outstanding Graduate Student University Life Award.

BRIAN HAGSTROM

Project Manager

Brian is a technical specialist in the world of Design Build, with more than 16 years of experience in the management and execution of residential construction projects. He has a lifelong passion for understanding how designs are built to stand the test of time. He began his career working at C&S Design & Engineering, Inc in Ashland, WI.

Brian is recipient of the First Place 2016 National Competition by the Structural Insulated Panel Association (SIPA) for his design and construction of a 10,000 SF Hotel/Resort in Northern Wisconsin. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon. Outside of the office and construction sites, he is a talented portrait artist, associated with the Sawyer Yards; a creative community thriving in the heart of Houston’s historic First Ward and Arts District.
